poets gold.

thank God for good poetry.

my favorite christmas gift by FAR was a winning compilation of Keat's poems.
its a beautiful hardback that i WILL keep for my library.

rarely do i really approve of my family's attempted contributions to my collection but this is a great find that i'm super pleased about.

around 2:30 this morning i read some keats. then decided i was in the mood for shelley... changed my mind and reverted to Leonora Speyer.

Good Lord id forgotten how much i love her.

i always TRY and love the classical poets... but that era escapes me.

i just GET her.

she's perfect.

i think i'm going to attach one of her poems to my oxford application.
as a cover page...

its one of my favorites, and reading it tonight made me realize how well it applied to that dream of mine.

so i'll leave you with this, and a Merry Christmas to you all.

Measure Me, Sky
by Leonora Speyer

Measure me, sky!
Tell me I reach by a song
Nearer the stars:
I have been little so long.

Weigh me, high wind!
What will your wild scales record?
Profit of pain,
Joy by the weight of a word.

Horizon, reach out!
Catch at my hands, stretch me taut,
Rim of the world:
Widen my eyes by a thought.

Sky, be my depth;
Wind, be my width and my height;
World, my heart's span:
Loneliness, wings for my flight!
