jigs.

thing e.m.a. jigs

1. mosque last week: don't remember if i wrote about this... but i went to a mosque with josh last week. ratio of 600 muslim men to 1 christian girl.
my finger started to bleed in the middle of the service. i was in the front row.
i applied pressure... and pretended i didn't know what was going on.
the people there were so beautiful though...
very gracious..
causing me to think about christianity and what it is that we saw about other religions...
we should not discount other religions for anything but the fact that i do not believe they are the truth.
we need not come up with generalized beliefs on how a whole religion treats women, sees white people or social class.

2. orthodox church: lovely.

i'm going to feed my interest in iconography.
i want to read about the orthodox church and discover whether i want to be protestant or not.
it doesn't REALLY matter... but i do love orthodox christianity in a reverent way verses protestantism in a liberal way which is worth looking into.

i want to start incorporating iconography and what has always interested me in typology into my artwork.

more so than i do already...
i of course use metaphors... but it would be interesting to use preformed metaphors that hold such meaning for the church.

i like the idea of Mary as the archetype for the ark of the covenant.
the carrier of the Word.

and i like this explanation because it sheds light on what has always mystified me...
the strange reverence for Mary...

i've always dismissed it.

but when you think of Mary as the Jews thought of the Ark of the Covenant... it makes sense that the congregation would view her as the beautiful vessel that they do.

i want to understand my misperceptions... what do they REALLY think versus what have i always THOUGHT they think....
